At Hotel Bergwelt, alpine luxury meets a sense of responsibility for nature and the future. Our unique mountain environment is close to our hearts – which is why we consciously consider where we can make a meaningful difference in our day-to-day hotel operations.
From energy and mobility to the careful use of resources, our cuisine and selected products throughout the hotel, we focus on measures that we continue to develop step by step. From our photovoltaic system and locally sourced heating to short supply routes and reusable solutions, we aim to show transparently what we are already doing. We are currently working towards certification with Eco-Label. This allows our measures to be assessed against defined criteria and continuously developed further.

Our Initiatives for Nature & Resources
Many small steps – one big goal. For us, sustainability is not only reflected in big words, but in our daily actions.
Many small steps with one shared goal. What matters to us is what we do in our day-to-day hotel operations – across energy, mobility, resources, cuisine and selected products.
Purity from nature
Our mountain spring water comes from natural sources, is treated directly at the hotel and bottled in glass. This helps us reduce external transport routes, avoid plastic bottles and offer fresh drinking water sourced directly from the region. In operation since November 2024 – more than 10,000 bottles per season.
Care products by TEAM DR JOSEPH
For little moments of wellbeing in your room, we use care products by TEAM DR JOSEPH from South Tyrol. Refill systems and larger containers help us reduce single-use packaging and use resources more thoughtfully.
Energy from the sun
In 2025, our solar power system generated around 50,000 kWh of electricity for our own use. In addition, we use LED lighting and motion detectors in the hotel to reduce electricity consumption.
Charge & go
Three on-site charging points allow our guests to conveniently charge their electric cars right at the hotel. This means they can set off on their journey to the Ötztal in a relaxed manner – without any detours and with zero exhaust emissions whilst in the area.
Heat with responsibility
The entire hotel is heated using regional organic heat from Obergurgl – sourced directly and reliably from the local area. Short supply chains and local partners also ensure that part of the value is retained within the Ötztal valley.
Less waste. More awareness.
Our waste management strategy focuses on prevention, careful sorting and reusable solutions. Our team also makes a conscious effort to use resources thoughtfully in their day-to-day work. At our buffets, we adjust the quantities to match the number of guests – combining enjoyment with an appreciation for good food.
Regional indulgence
We work with selected local producers: for example, the Brüggler family (milk), Franz Weisiele (potatoes), Ötztaler Quellfische, Ötztal Bäck, Handl Tyrol and Tiroler Edle. This connection to the region shapes our cuisine – featuring Tyrolean classics, dishes with a modern twist, as well as vegetarian and vegan creations.
Thinking regionally
Whether in the minibar or at the bar – in 2025/26, around 90 % of our drinks came from Tyrol: TIROLA Kola, Sölsch beer and Montes mineral water. This way, we stay true to the region’s flavours – and reduce transport distances.
We rely on local companies such as Gstrein, Falkner & Riml and Haid & Falkner for conversions and technology in our establishment. Short distances, strong partnerships and genuine craftsmanship from Tyrol.
Regular cleaning with a natural active ingredient complex
Our mattresses and textiles are regularly cleaned with a highly effective, 100% skin-friendly active ingredient complex derived from natural sources. This effectively reduces dust mites – promoting better hygiene, improved sleep quality, and a particularly pleasant indoor environment, even for people with allergies.
Living with a view
Our staff live in modern accommodation just a five-minute walk from the hotel. Short commutes and a better quality of life make a valuable contribution to our daily lives together – fostering a strong team spirit.
